Job summary

Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic is seeking a compassionate Physical Therapist Assistant to join our outpatient Therapy Team. The PTA will work under supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to help patients restore mobility and function.

Responsibilities include executing treatment plans, providing therapeutic exercise, education, and documenting progress while collaborating with clinicians to support discharge planning.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current licensure as a PTA in Tennessee, or eligibility to obtain licensure before practicing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification, or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.
• Ability to follow plans of care and clinical direction from a supervising Physical Therapist.
• Strong observation, treatment, documentation, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient education and motivation.

Description

Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic (KOC) is seeking a compassionate and motivated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our Therapy team. Working under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA plays an important role in helping patients restore mobility, improve function, and work toward their rehabilitation goals.

In this position, you will carry out established plans of care, provide therapeutic interventions, monitor patient progress, educate patients and families, and collaborate closely with Physical Therapists and other healthcare professionals.

The ideal candidate is patient-focused, dependable, and passionate about rehabilitation. This is an excellent opportunity for a PTA who enjoys working with orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions in a collaborative outpatient environment.

What You'll Do

Carry out individualized treatment plans established by the supervising Physical Therapist.

Provide therapeutic exercise, functional training, neuromuscular re-education, manual techniques, gait and balance activities, modalities, and other appropriate interventions within the PTA scope of practice.

Review plans of care, physician orders, precautions, goals, and relevant clinical information prior to treatment.

Monitor patient response to treatment and appropriately progress activities within the established plan of care and delegated authority.

Communicate changes in patient condition, barriers to progress, unexpected responses, or safety concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist.

Educate patients and families on prescribed exercises, home programs, equipment use, precautions, body mechanics, activity modification, and injury-prevention strategies.

Assist patients with transfers, positioning, mobility, gait training, and the appropriate use of assistive devices.

Accurately document treatment, patient response, progress toward goals, education, and relevant clinical communications.

Collaborate with Physical Therapists and other healthcare professionals to support coordinated care, patient progress, and discharge planning.

Maintain clean, safe, and organized treatment areas, equipment, and supplies.

Follow Tennessee licensure requirements, professional standards, HIPAA, infection-prevention practices, safety procedures, and KOC policies.

Participate in continuing education, staff meetings, cross-training, quality-improvement initiatives, and other team activities.

What We're Looking For

Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Current, unrestricted Physical Therapist Assistant license in Tennessee , or eligibility to obtain licensure before beginning clinical practice.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification within the timeframe established by KOC.

Ability to effectively follow plans of care and clinical direction from a supervising Physical Therapist.

Strong clinical observation, treatment, documentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to educate, encourage, and motivate patients throughout rehabilitation.

Ability to manage a clinical caseload, documentation requirements, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, confidentiality, teamwork, and continued professional development.

Comfortable using electronic health records, therapy documentation systems, email, and common office applications.

Preferred Experience

Previous experience in an outpatient orthopaedic or musculoskeletal rehabilitation setting.

Experience treating post-operative, sports-related, and complex orthopaedic conditions.

Experience with NextGen or a comparable electronic health record and therapy documentation system.
