Job Position:

Physical Therapy Assistant for an In-house Skilled Nursing Facility

Job Type:

Full Time, Part Time, or PRN positions available

Job Purpose:

To assist in planning, organizing, developing, and directing Physical Therapy services in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to ensure the highest quality of resident care.

Job Functions:
  • Provide physical therapy services to residents under the direct supervision of the Physical Therapist.
  • Conduct screenings of residents at regular intervals to determine need for intervention/treatment.
  • Identify indications for evaluations at appropriate intervals and assist in the evaluation under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
  • Assist the Physical Therapist in identifying a target list, including short-term goals, long-term goals, and treatment plans.
  • Conduct both individual and group treatments as assigned by the Physical Therapist, covering areas like muscle strength, coordination, mobility, sensory awareness, sitting and standing, transfer training, balance activities, gait training, range of motion activities, and modalities.
  • Assist in selecting physical therapy techniques/media and in the sequence of activities, adapting techniques/media based on resident performance and following consultation with the Physical Therapist.
  • Monitor residents’ response to interventions and consult with the Physical Therapist if modifications are needed.
  • Assist in establishing and modifying individual resident schedules in conjunction with the Physical Therapist and other team members.
  • Adhere to department and resident schedules, modifying as appropriate for treatment regimens.
  • Train residents, families, and staff in the use or application of equipment.
  • Participate in resident, family, and staff education.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in the evaluation, planning, implementation, and follow-up of resident therapy programs.
  • Report to work on time and coordinate schedules to maximize productivity and efficiency during the shift.
  • Assist with and participate in the Quality Assurance Program as required.
  • Complete compliant and medically necessary documentation following CMS expectations in NetHealth EMR systems.
Education & Requirements:
  • Associates Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Maintain ongoing continuing education and professional development.
  • Active Physical Therapy Assistant license in the state(s) of practice.
  • Ongoing education to maintain licensure and certification.
