Job Description
The Physical Therapist Assistant II reports to the Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist Assistant II provides optimal patient care by implementing a physical therapy program to individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental and patient/family directed approach. Under the general supervision of a Physical Therapist I, II, or III, functions as a staff physical therapist assistant. Supervises PTA students and provides clinical education experiences.
Patient populations served: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric for a variety of diagnosis to include but not limited to: neurologic, orthopedic, post-surgical, pediatric, medically complex, inpatient or outpatient throughout the hospital system.
Education: Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program, less than one year experience as a physical therapy assistant.

Physical demands: NOTE: The following descriptions are applicable to this section: 1) Continuous C – 6-8 hours per shift; 2) Frequent F – 2-6 hours per shift; 3) Infrequent I– 0-2 hours per shift. Ability to perform job functions while standing (C), sitting (C), walking (C), climbing stairs (I), working indoors (C), outdoors in temperature extremes (I), from elevated areas (F), in confined/cramped spaces (F), from kneeling positions (I), bending at the waist (C), twisting at the waist (F), squatting (F), performing “pinching” operations (F), gross motor activities with fingers and hands (C), firm grasping (C), fine manipulation (C), reaching overhead (F), performing repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders (C), fully using both legs (C), using lower extremities for balance and coordination (F), reaching in all directions (C), lifting and carrying 50 lbs. unassisted (I), lifting/lowering objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted (I), lifting from 36” to overhead 25 lbs (I), exerting up to 50 lbs. of force (F).

MUSC Health Black River Medical Center supports a patient-and family-centered approach to care. Family members are not considered visitors to a loved one who is hospitalized. They are key participants in support, decision-making, and care. We do not have visiting hour restrictions and two people are always welcome at the bedside 24 hours a day.
About Black River (Cades, SC): Originally named Camp Ridge, it changed to Cades when the post office was established in 1887. The community was named after C. W. Cades, an early postmaster, or possibly after early postmaster Vernal Glenn Arnette's (1885-1974) grandfather, Cade Arnette (1823-1864).
