The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for providing skilled Physical Therapy in the facility consistent with professional standards and agency policies under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist while participating in the development of programs necessary to achieve patient/resident care objectives.

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Job Summary:

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) performs patient related activities under the direction of a physical therapist. Services may include but are not limited to purposeful activities or interventions to maximize the independence and the maintenance of health of any individual who is limited by a physical injury or illness, a cognitive impairment, a psychosocial dysfunction, a mental illness, a developmental or learning disability, or an adverse environmental condition.

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the physical therapist when performing tests, evaluation and complex treatment procedures
  • Observing, recording and reporting to the therapist the condition, reactions and responses related to assigned duties
  • Assisting the therapist in consulting with patients, family members and other health care professionals as appropriate
  • Assisting with the care of the physical therapy department and equipment
  • Assisting the physical therapist with in-service programs and other meetings as assigned

Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in the appropriate state
  • Prior experience in Physical Therapy, preferred
  • Prior experience in Skilled Nursing, preferred
