Description
Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) work under licensed physical therapists to help people with physical injuries or illnesses regain range of movement and control their pain. Under the PT's direction, PTAs assist individuals who have lost motor function due to accidents, illness, or age.
What You Will Do
- Provide physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
- Instruct, motivate, safeguard, and assist patients during exercises or functional activities.
- Observe patients during treatments to evaluate responses and progress, reporting findings to the physical therapist.
- Collaborate with the therapy team to plan, modify, or coordinate treatments based on patient information.
- Administer therapeutic exercises, massage, aquatic therapy, or modalities like ultrasound, heat, light, sound, or electrical treatments.
- Measure joint motion, vital signs, or other parameters to assess treatment effects and patient progress.
- Educate caregivers and family members on therapeutic activities and treatment plans.
- Transport and assist patients with transfers, ensuring proper positioning.
- Secure patients onto therapy equipment and assist with dressing or supportive devices.
- Maintain a clean work environment and properly store equipment after use.
- Fit and train patients with orthopedic braces, prostheses, or supportive devices.
- Monitor equipment operation and document treatment administration.
- Perform clerical tasks such as inventory management, supply ordering, and documentation.
- Administer traction therapy for neck or back pain, and prepare treatment areas and equipment.
- Implement care components competently, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Identify patient needs with compassion and empathy, providing appropriate modifications.
- Stay updated with current research to improve treatment effectiveness.
- Complete accurate documentation supporting therapy services.
- Collect data, measure performance, and participate in patient assessments.
- Adhere to ethical and legal standards, maintaining competence and knowledge.
- Assess learning needs, develop training plans, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Attend departmental meetings and foster positive relationships with team members to promote patient-centered care.

- Participate in required training and adhere to organizational policies regarding PHI security.
