Job description

Under the direct, on-premise supervision of a licensed physical therapist, provides physical therapy treatment procedures to an assigned inpatient caseload. Maintains an orderly environment in the physical therapy gym and treatment areas.

Clinical

• Reads and reviews the medical record to understand the patient’s diagnosis, precautions, goals, and treatment plans. Asks questions regarding unclear information.
• Provides direct interventions in individual or group sessions as planned, especially gait training, exercise, and modalities. Can treat patients in any setting in the hospital, including the ambulatory network.
• Evaluates the patient’s response to intervention and documents patient progress in the chart. Instructs patients and parents in home programs, especially gait training and transfer.
• Informs the physical therapist of progress/problems with specific patients.
• Performs care coordination tasks associated with patient care, including communication with hospital and community providers, tracking of medical equipment, etc.

Academic

• Maintains current skills and knowledge by identifying own learning needs, both formally and informally, to practice a lifestyle of lifelong learning. Seeks opportunities for clinical growth and development within the department through mentorship.
• Pursues and achieves departmental competencies as assigned.
• Attends inservices within the department and hospital as appropriate.

Administrative

• Maintains productivity and fiscal responsibility in the provision/utilization of services.
• Actively participates in department planning meetings.

Interpersonal relationship skills that permit effective communication with parents, children of various ages, peers, and supervisors.
