Job description

Pay Range: $29.82 – $41.60 per hour.
Additional $25,000 sign‑on bonus and $10,000 relocation assistance for a qualified hire.

Job Overview

Position is based in the Hospital Rehabilitation Services Department and focuses on providing Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) treatments. Work is performed under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver therapy treatments as outlined in the licensed physical therapist’s plan of care.
  • Review clinical records and case histories.
  • Participate in care conferences, rounds, and interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate medical equipment and discharge plans are in place.
  • Document patient encounters, treatment findings, and progress reports in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Provide services to both in‑patient and out‑patient populations across various settings.
  • Direct the work of support staff, students, or interns as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and conduct patient education and therapy programs.
  • Create home exercise programs, clarify instructions, and confirm patient or caregiver understanding.
  • Assist other staff with administrative duties, clinic operations, and specialty or research activities as appropriate.
  • Maintain supply stocks and clinical equipment.
  • Support billing procedures (Medicare, Medicaid, third‑party payers) for reimbursement of services and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel to remote locations for facility assessments or therapy service delivery.
Education, Certifications, & Licenses
  • Associate degree from a CAPTE‑accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Alaska.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Clinical competency completion within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter.
  • High‑risk competency completion within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter.
Experience Required
  • Experience in acute‑care hospitals and outpatient settings preferable.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, musculoskeletal physiology, and functional assessment.
  • Familiarity with treatment planning and interventions for a broad range of diagnoses.
  • Understanding of billing mechanisms and regulations related to physical therapy.
Key Skills
  • Ability to properly fit and train patients with adaptive devices and durable medical equipment.
  • Effective written and oral communication, including documentation of progress notes and patient education.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and multiple software applications.
  • Ability to explain complex therapeutic concepts in clear, accessible language to patients and family members.
  • Sound judgment in patient care, workplace safety, and employee relations.
Supervision & Leadership
  • Work under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist who can oversee up to three PTAs.
  • Receive periodic onsite supervision at least once per month; additional consultations may be provided via phone, verbally, or in writing.
  • Ensure written treatment plans are maintained and updated through periodic evaluations.
Overtime & Travel

Work may involve physical demands such as heavy lifting (>50 lbs.) and repetitive motions. Occasional multi‑day travel to remote locations via boat or small aircraft may be required.
