Overview

Wage - Min: $26.88 Max: $42.92

Aid in the care and safety of patients. Treats patients according to the Physical Therapist's Plan of Care, and checks patient and equipment during treatment for both comfort and safety. Treats patients of all ages (infants to elderly, ages 0-120 years), races, creeds, genders, and disabilities without bias. Responsible for charting on assigned patients, assuring confidentiality of all records. Treats patients under the supervision of the Physical Therapist; this position carries considerable responsibility.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervisory
    • Supervises assigned area to ensure it is secure, orderly and organized at all times.
    • Supervise technicians assigned to their areas.
    • Supervise patients receiving treatment in their assigned area.
  • Non-supervisory
    • Care of equipment, machines, supplies and facilities.
    • Safety and welfare of patients.
    • Prevention of unnecessary expenses, waste, loss of time, and damage to equipment.
    • Order and cleanliness of department/facility.
  • Knowledge
    • Familiar with cleaning agents and methods; department/facility layout; techniques of handling patients; policies, procedures, and regulations; operation of department/facility equipment; physical therapy treatment techniques; basic anatomy, physiology, physics, medical science.
  • Skill
    • Apply the theory of Physical Therapy; operate equipment used in the position; perform technical procedures; communicate professionally; use supervision and management skills.
    • Skill in handling patients, assisting patients, and operation of department/facility equipment; proficiency in various treatment techniques.
  • Mental Application
    • Instill confidence in patients, doctors, and staff; determine procedures and evaluate results; make decisions; adapt to emergencies; monitor patient condition; monitor department activities.
    • Willing to work under direction, take instructions, and adapt; reason, remember details, be alert and flexible.
  • Dexterity
    • Coordinate sight and movements for procedures; handle patients and equipment safely.
  • Policies and Procedures
    • Maintain current adherence to policies in the department/facility manual.
  • Accuracy
    • Maintain high accuracy in carrying out prescriptions, information handling, charting and reporting.
  • Physical Demands
    • Good physical stamina; ability to stand, walk, lift (up to 50 pounds occasionally) and carry up to 25 pounds regularly; tolerate standing and manual tasks for long periods.

    • Thoughtful, courteous, patient, neat, well-groomed; able to organize time to treat a maximum number of patients; maintain professional demeanor and strong human relations; possess strength, initiative, judgment, flexibility and enthusiasm.

    • No unusual hazard risks; potential for muscular strain, exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • Supervision Requirements
    • Requires minimal supervision; may supervise non-professional personnel as applicable.
  • Public Relations
    • May be the first department contact with the patient; courteous, well-groomed, thoughtful presentation is necessary.
  • Organization-wide/Department Performance Improvement Plan
    • Actively participates in organization-wide and department performance improvement plans.
  • Additionally
    • Supports hospital mission, vision and values; participates in required education for applicable programs; performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy Assistant. Must have an associate degree in physical therapy or be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Preferred: Evidence of continuing education relevant to area and practice.

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

Required: Current Oregon PTA license in good standing. Current CPR certification.

Required: Ability to provide patient physical rehabilitation and psychosocial well-being; ability to communicate with others both medically and publicly; well-groomed appearance and professional contact.

Physical Requirements

The physical and sensory functions are essential to perform this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made per ADA. Primarily indoor healthcare environment (hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility); variable indoor temperatures; exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment; adherence to safety protocols and PPE; fast-paced and potentially high-pressure circumstances.

Hours: 40 Hours

Compensation: USD $26.88/Hr. to USD $42.92/Hr.
