Job Summary:

The Physical Therapist Assistant, under the direction of a Physical Therapist, assists the Therapist in implementing treatment programs according to a plan of care, i.e. training patients in exercises, conducting treatments using special equipment, administrating modalities and other treatment procedures, as well as reporting the patient’s response to the Physical Therapist.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist patients with exercises, therapeutic activities, and functional tasks as prescribed by the supervising Physical Therapist.

Implement treatment plans and interventions designed to improve patients' mobility, strength, flexibility, and overall functional abilities.

Report to the Physical Therapist any change in reaction of a patient to a particular modality or treatment program.

Monitor and record patients' progress during treatment sessions, documenting changes and reporting them to the Physical Therapist and Medical Provider.

Help patients use assistive devices and equipment, such as crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs, while providing proper instruction.

Perform therapeutic exercises, range of motions, and manual techniques as directed by the Physical Therapist.

Educate patients and their families on proper exercise techniques, home exercise programs, and self-care strategies.

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to provide updates on patients' progress and address any concerns.

Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting treatment sessions, progress, and any changes in patients' conditions.

Collaborate with the supervising Physical Therapist to ensure proper continuity of care and treatment plan adjustments.

Requirements:

Associate’s degree from an Accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

PTA for minimum of 1 year.

RI PTA license required.
