Job summary

Qualifications

  • Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant in California is required.
  • Valid CPR certification is required.
  • A completed physical examination from a licensed physician is required.
  • TB test within past year or clear Chest X-ray within five years.

  • Treat patients according to the treatment plan set by the PT and approved by the physician.
  • Communicate with supervisor and rehab team about patient plan, progress, and prognosis.
  • Review evaluations and notes, and prepare discharge summaries as needed.
  • Submit daily billing for treatments prior to leaving the facility.
  • Educate patient families and caregivers in treatment and maintenance programs.
  • Secure durable medical equipment for patients to facilitate mobility.
  • Maintain safe, organized treatment areas and patient records.
  • Comply with CA licensing, CMS, and applicable safety rules and procedures.

Job SummaryUnder the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant (“PTA”) treats patients, communicates with their families, physicians, and other health team members, and maintains all necessary documentation of services in the patient’s medical records. Physical therapy services include treatment planning & implementation, testing patients’ physical abilities, analyzing and progressing rehabilitation goals as advised by the physical therapist, and consulting with the rehab team and other health team members to coordinate the most effective treatment program.Responsibilities and DutiesEssential Responsibilities and ExpectationsUnder the direct supervision of a licensed physical therapist:Treat patients according to the treatment plan set by the PT and approved by the physicianCommunicate regularly with the supervisor and other members of the rehabilitation team, regarding patient treatment plan, progress, and prognosisReview evaluations, daily treatment notes, bi-weekly progress notes, progress reports to the physician, and discharge summaries, as needed, per Company and facility policy and procedureComplete all required documentation for your treatments prior to leaving the facilitySubmit daily billing for your treatments prior to leaving the facilityEducate patient families and caregivers in treatment and any applicable maintenance programsSecure necessary durable medical equipment (e.g., orthoses, walkers, canes elevated toilet seats, and grab bars) for patients to facilitate independent mobilityMaintain a safe and organized working environment and treatment areaReport building and equipment issues to the appropriate supervisor immediatelyMaintain and file patient records to keep them updated and accurateComply with State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board guidelinesComply with Company and facility rules, policies, and proceduresComply with all applicable safety rules, policies, and proceduresReport to work regularly and on-timeAdditional Responsibilities and ExpectationsUnder the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, provide necessary training and guidance to student interns as assigned, including:Informing student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelinesCompleting any paperwork required by the Company or the students’ academic programAssume other duties as assignedDISCLAIMER: If you are fluent in another language, when and if needed you will also provide assistance in the following translation tasks:Reading, writing, creating, editing documentsAttending evaluations/progress reports/and treatments to provide translation between provider and patient/caregiverAnswering phones and translating caller needsOther translation needs when necessaryPhysical and Mental RequirementsThese physical and mental demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the PTA.
