Job summary

Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, LA is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our Rehabilitation Services team. Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, you will implement treatment plans to improve mobility, strength, balance, and independence.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current Louisiana PTA license in good standing.
• Current BLS certification.
• Experience in acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient, or skilled nursing settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide physical therapy treatments under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Implement individualized plans to improve mobility, strength, balance, and independence.
• Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, gait training, transfers, and mobility activities.
• Monitor progress and communicate changes to the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Educate patients and caregivers on home programs and use of assistive devices.
• Document treatments and patient responses in the electronic medical record.
• Maintain a safe, clean treatment area and equipment.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other care team members.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Participate in quality improvement and continuing education.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a motivated and compassionate Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our Rehabilitation Services team. The ideal candidate is committed to helping patients achieve their rehabilitation goals while providing exceptional care under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. This individual enjoys working with patients of all ages and is passionate about improving mobility, function, and quality of life.

• Provide physical therapy treatments under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Implement individualized treatment plans designed to improve mobility, strength, balance, endurance, and functional independence.
• Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, gait training, transfers, and mobility activities.
• Monitor patient progress and communicate changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, safety techniques, and the proper use of assistive devices.
• Accurately document treatments, patient responses, and progress in the electronic medical record.
• Maintain treatment areas and equipment to ensure a safe and clean environment.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and professional practice guidelines.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

WHAT WILL HELP YOU STAND OUT

• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current Louisiana Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license in good standing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Previous experience in an acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, or skilled nursing setting preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and encourage patients throughout the rehabilitation process.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
• Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

WHAT TO EXPECT

• A dynamic rehabilitation environment providing care to patients recovering from illness, injury, surgery, and other conditions affecting mobility and function.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and assisting patients with mobility throughout the workday.
• Ability to safely transfer and assist patients using proper body mechanics and rehabilitation equipment.
• Exposure to healthcare-related hazards; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.
• Flexibility to work weekdays and occasional weekends or holidays based on departmental needs.
• Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including a background check, drug screen, and any applicable health screenings.
