Job Description
Primary Purpose
Plan and provide therapy to students with physical disabilities; assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in physical therapy or related program
- Valid Texas license as a physical therapist granted by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of medical information and indications for physical therapy treatment
- Skill in use of tests and measurements for assessing physical function
- Ability to administer manual exercises and physical therapy treatments
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a physical therapist
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Therapy
- Plan and provide direct and consultative services consistent with physical therapy goals contained in students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of physical therapy services.
- Design, construct, and alter equipment; provide students with adaptive equipment and devices.
Assessment
- Assess students with physical disabilities and determine eligibility for services.
- Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretations of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with physical disabilities according to district procedures.
- Adapt or recommend adaptation of the school environment.
Consultation
- Consult with educational staff regarding the use of specialized equipment and materials.
- Consult with district and outside personnel including private therapists and other medical staff regarding the physical and medical needs of students.
- Provide staff development training in assigned schools to help school personnel understand students with physical disabilities.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
Student Management
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level, interests, and needs of the student.
- Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Program Management
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the physical therapy program and make changes based on the findings.
- Assist in the selection of equipment and adaptive materials.
Administration
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy
- Comply with all district and assigned campus routines and regulations
- Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents
- Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications.
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.

- Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
- Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
- Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.
- Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.
- Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.
- Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.
- Implement effective policy-driven decision making.
- Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned

Terms: 187 days
Stipend: $4,000

Job Requirements
