About Duke Raleigh Hospital, A Campus of Duke University Hospital

With 204 beds, it is the third largest of Duke Health's four hospitals and offers a comprehensive array of services, including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care.

Position Summary

Provide physical therapy services to patients/clients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. Offer prevention and wellness services, including screenings and health promotion. The senior serves as a resource for the team and department, participates in orientation of new staff, and engages in teaching activities for students. The physical therapist works within practice guidelines as defined by North Carolina state law.

Work Performed
  • Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning in evaluating data, diagnosing, and developing care plans.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to create and update care plans, set goals, and establish discharge plans tailored to individual needs.
  • Understand and incorporate the role of physical therapy within the patient's overall care, considering age-specific and environmental factors.
  • Exhibit age-appropriate competency skills relevant to the patient's conditions.
  • Follow intervention protocols and adjust care plans as needed.
  • Discharge patients when goals are achieved or services are no longer necessary, with provisions for follow-up.
  • Maintain competency in evaluations specific to practice area.
  • Meet patient care productivity standards.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to optimize productivity.
  • Utilize support personnel effectively.
  • Participate in patient coverage across departments as needed.
  • Assess learning needs of patients and caregivers, providing education accordingly.
  • Use appropriate educational methods and materials, monitoring patient responses.
  • Ensure patients and families understand how to access further interventions.
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation meeting standards.
  • Deliver clear oral reports.
  • Perform data collection within specified timeframes.
  • Meet peer review standards.
  • Provide clinical education for students, supervising 1-2 students during long-term rotations.
  • Participate in outreach, in-services, referrals, and volunteer interactions.
  • Contribute to research activities to improve outcomes.

Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to push, pull, lift, carry, and transfer patients.

Level Characteristics

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or certification in physical therapy; Master's or Clinical Doctorate preferred.

Experience: None beyond required education; more experience may be preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: Current Physical Therapist license in North Carolina.
