Job description

The Physical Therapist 2 (Per Diem) is a journey‑level clinician who provides high‑quality, evidence‑based physical therapy services within the JV Rehabilitation Hospital. Reporting to the Director of Therapy, this role delivers skilled evaluation and treatment for patients with a wide range of rehabilitation needs. The PT 2 brings at least two years of licensed clinical experience across multiple care settings, demonstrating strong clinical judgment, autonomy, and adaptability in a fast‑paced interdisciplinary environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • California Licensed Physical Therapist
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Minimum education satisfied through the attainment of the required licensure/certification
  • 2 or more years of recent clinical experience in the field of Physical Therapy
  • 1 year of experience working with adults
  • Experience with documentation in Electronic Medical Records
  • Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a licensed Physical Therapist as required and assigned by Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital
  • Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, device settings, and written information such as the patient medical record
  • Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations, and instructions to, and to elicit information from, others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinics/department customers; to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate manner; to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor; and to use a proactive approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action
  • Ability to maintain composure, efficiency, and a positive, customer‑service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed
  • Problem‑solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify available resources; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties
  • Decision‑making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached
  • Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times

Preferred Qualifications
  • American Physical Therapy Association Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program Level 1
  • 2 years of experience working with an adult population in inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing (SNF), acute care, or a long‑term acute care hospital
  • Experience with neurological diagnoses (job or student rotation)

  • Ability to work occasional overtime.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as determined by the department.
  • Must be available to work 2 weekends and 2 weekdays per month.
  • Work at least 1 prime holiday (Friday after Thanksgiving, Dec 24, Dec 26) and 4 other UC holidays per year.
  • Must be able to work in the Acute Care and Inpatient Rehabilitation settings, or any other UCDH site as needed.
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution.
Special Requirements
  • This is a critical position, as defined by UC Policy and local procedures. Employment is contingent upon clearing a criminal background check(s) and may include drug screening, medical evaluation, clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
  • This position is designated as a mandated reporter under CANRA and UC policy, and employment is contingent on compliance with applicable policies, procedures and training requirements.
