Job summary

Miami Jewish Health is seeking a Physical Therapist (MJH) to evaluate and implement skilled physical therapy treatments for patients with musculoskeletal, neurological, and other conditions. The role collaborates with physicians, families, and the rehab team to restore and maintain function and reduce disability.

The candidate should have a Florida PT license, BLS, and at least one year of geriatric PT experience. A Master’s degree is preferred; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • One year experience in physical therapy; geriatric population preferred.
  • Florida licensed physical therapist.
  • BLS certified.

Responsibilities

  • Completes a comprehensive physical therapy evaluation and plan of care.
  • Develops a comprehensive treatment plan with goals that align with identified impairments for each participant.
  • Begins discharge planning on evaluation and involves the patient, family and/or caregiver.
  • Reviews patient’s status at regular intervals and adjusts treatment as needed.
  • Supervises and trains support personnel.
  • Maintains documentation aligned with best practice standards.

Job Title:

Physical Therapist MJH

Job Summary

Evaluates and implements physical therapy treatment plans to patients with physical impairments related to the musculoskeletal, neurological, integumentary system, and other conditions that may impact physical function. Physical therapy works to restore and/or maintain the patient’s function, alleviate pain, and prevent disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed skilled physical therapy interventions. Collaborates with physician, family members and other members of the healthcare team. Provides training and education to family/caregivers and other professionals.

Essential Job Functions
  • Completes a comprehensive physical therapy evaluation and plan of care
  • Develops a comprehensive treatment plan with goals that align with identified impairments for each participant to maximize potential
  • Begins discharge planning on evaluation and involves the patient, family and/or caregiver in establishing goals for rehabilitation and discharge planning, as evidenced in the documentation
  • Reviews patient’s status at regular intervals and changes the treatment program as necessary
  • Participates in and provides in‑service education to facilities, supportive staff, students, and the community
  • Attends both departmental and IDT (interdisciplinary team) meetings
  • Establishes a cooperative working relationship between the IDT, rehab team and members of the medical community
  • Supervises and trains support personnel
  • Documentation aligns with best practice standards and is accurate and timely
  • Identifies potential problem situations, intervenes appropriately, and communicates such events to supervisor
  • Performs related non‑clinical services necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the department, and adjusts schedule as required
  • Demonstrates willingness to work across clinical service lines, including inpatient, outpatient, and PACE as needed
Job Requirements
Education
  • Master’s degree preferred
Experience
  • One year experience in physical therapy and experience working with the geriatric population preferred
Licenses/Certifications
  • Florida licensed physical therapist
  • BLS certified
Abilities Required
  • Current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body mechanics and body substance precautions to protect self, patients and personnel working with therapist
  • Effective written and oral communication skills Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Good problem solving and clinical judgment skills
  • Demonstrate ability to take initiative, be adaptable and work well independently
  • Be well organized, flexible, dependable, and punctual
  • Ability to work well with staff, individuals, and participants of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office, Excel)

  • Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation
  • Proximity to moving mechanical parts, and housekeeping/cleaning agents

  • Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues
Physical Requirements
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the following tasks without posing a threat to the health and safety of those involved (employee, co‑workers, caregivers, patient): lift, turn, move, position and transport patients in and out of bed, chair, bathtub, wheelchair, lift, etc.
  • Sedentary tasks related to job 20%
  • Physical tasks- approximately 80%
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform a minimal assist transfer. Minimal assist transfers are defined for purpose of this document as the ability to lift and control 50 pounds
  • Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently and 20 pounds constantly. (Heavy physical demand)
