Job Description

The Physical Security Technician reports to the Manager, Integrated Security and Information Systems, supporting the technology needs of Boston College’s Department of Public Safety. The role involves on-site support for physical security systems across the university, including IP Video Security Systems, Access Control Systems, and Panic and Intrusion Alarm Systems.

Additionally, the technician assists with Public Safety Technology, which includes MDT In-Vehicle Computers, LTE Trunk Routers, radios, mass notification systems, and Smart Campus technologies like License Plate Recognition, Blue Light Emergency Phones, Dynamic Alarm Mapping, AVL Mapping, and other systems within the Public Safety Communications Centers.

Hiring Range: $33.89/hr to $42.38/hr. Pay rate depends on relevant experience.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong technical abilities to troubleshoot and maintain critical physical security equipment supporting 24x7 operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and project planning skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent customer service, coordination, collaboration, communication, and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and comfortable working with basic IP networks.
  • Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs, climb ladders at least 15 ft, and travel across campus.
  • Experience using hand and power tools, clean driving record.
  • Willingness to support a diverse and inclusive environment.

Preferred Certifications (not required):

  • Software House - CCURE 9000 Installer Certified
  • Genetec Security Center Certified

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in troubleshooting, repair, and installation of Public Safety Technology and Building Security Systems.
  • Proficiency in reading security floorplans, architectural, and network diagrams.
  • Lead experience is preferred but not required.

  • Access Control and Alarm Management Systems
  • Video Security Systems (CCTV)
  • Basic Computer Networking and Telecommunications
  • Experience with specific security systems and cameras listed in the original description.
