Job summary

Blackstone, headquartered in New York, seeks a Managing Director, Portfolio Company Physical Security Director to lead strategic security across the firm’s portfolio and identify emerging threats, oversee investigations, and strengthen resilience across assets.

You will partner with portfolio company leadership, legal, security vendors, compliance, HR, and executives to implement scalable security frameworks, conduct site assessments, and drive risk mitigation across diverse environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Intelligence Studies, Business, or related field.
• 18+ years of progressive experience in corporate security, investigations, law enforcement, military, or enterprise risk management.
• Experience supporting private equity, multinational corporations, critical infrastructure, or multi-site operating environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in investigations, threat intelligence, crisis management, and physical security operations.
• Willingness to travel as needed across portfolio company locations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute enterprise-level physical security strategies across portfolio companies aligned with organizational risk priorities.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on physical security, threat mitigation, crisis preparedness, and operational resilience.
• Establish scalable security governance models, standards, and best practices across varied operating environments.
• Conduct comprehensive security assessments for existing and newly acquired portfolio companies. Collaborate with security industry vendors.
• Gather, analyze, and operationalize intelligence from internal and external sources to identify potential threats, vulnerabilities, and emerging risks.
• Develop a proactive investigative mindset to identify patterns, indicators, and operational concerns before escalation occurs.
• Partner with internal stakeholders, external agencies and law enforcement when necessary to support investigative efforts and risk mitigation activities and responses.
• Oversee threat assessments and recommend practical mitigation measures based on operational realities and business priorities.
• Evaluate security and safety-related impacts to portfolio company operations, facilities, personnel, supply chains, and critical infrastructure.
• Design and implement tactical security responses to identified risks, incidents, and vulnerabilities.
• Partner directly with portfolio company leadership teams to assess security maturity and implement enhancement initiatives.
• Provide guidance and operational support during periods of elevated risk, business disruption, labor unrest, civil instability, or other security-related events.
• Conduct regular site visits and operational reviews to validate compliance with security standards and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, integrations, restructurings, and special situations from a security and operational risk perspective.
• Collaborate closely with BXTI Cybersecurity teams

The Managing Director, Portfolio Company Physical Security Director will lead the strategic development, oversight, and engagement for physical security best practices across the firm’s portfolio companies. This role is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating security-related risks through intelligence gathering, proactive investigations, operational analysis, and tactical response planning.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in corporate security, investigations, crisis management, and enterprise strategic deployments. The individual will partner closely with portfolio company leadership teams, operating partners, legal, security vendors, compliance, human resources, and executive stakeholders to establish scalable security frameworks that protect people, assets, operations, reputation, and enterprise value.

This position requires a highly experienced and operationally focused leader who can manage, identify and assess emerging threats, develop actionable intelligence, and implement practical approaches and solutions that strengthen operational resilience across the portfolio companies.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Security Leadership

• Develop and execute enterprise-level physical security strategies across portfolio companies aligned with organizational risk priorities.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on physical security, threat mitigation, crisis preparedness, and operational resilience.

Data Collection & Investigations

• Gather, analyze, and operationalize intelligence from internal and external sources to identify potential threats, vulnerabilities, and emerging risks.

Risk Assessment & Tactical Response

• Conduct regular site visits and operational reviews to validate compliance with security standards and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, integrations, restructurings, and special situations from a security and operational risk perspective.
• Collaborate closely with BXTI Cybersecurity teams

Crisis Management

• Support crisis management activities during critical incidents affecting personnel, operations, or facilities.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders during emergency response situations.
• Assist portfolio companies in developing and testing business resilience and emergency preparedness plans.
• Ensure lessons learned from incidents are captured and integrated into future risk mitigation strategies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, IT Security, Operations, and executive leadership to address enterprise-wide security concerns.
• Build relationships with law enforcement, intelligence agencies, emergency management partners, and third-party security providers.
• Support executive protection and high-risk travel security assessments when required for portfolio company executive visits or events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Intelligence Studies, Business, or related field preferred.
• 18+ years of progressive experience in corporate security, intelligence, investigations, law enforcement, military, federal agencies, or enterprise risk management.
• Experience supporting private equity, multinational corporations, critical infrastructure, or multi-site operating environments strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in investigations, threat intelligence, crisis management, and physical security operations.
• Strong understanding of security technologies, access control systems, surveillance systems, and operational security frameworks.
• Proven experience assessing complex threat environments.
• Experience briefing senior executives and managing sensitive or high-profile matters.
• Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel as needed across portfolio company locations.

Expected annual base salary range:

$275,000 - $300,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual’s experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.
