The Physical Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the security and safety of the credit union's employees, visitors, and facilities across multiple locations. This position monitors security systems, controls access to buildings, responds to alarms and incidents, and provides direction and assistance as needed. The Physical Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a secure environment by enforcing security policies and responding to security-related concerns in a professional and timely manner.
Work Arrangement - This position is an onsite role, responsible for working at our Headquarters in East Lansing, MI.
Schedule - 40 hours per week, with a consistent schedule within our Standard Hours of Operation. Rotation of Saturdays and occasional evenings for events is required. Standard hours include: Monday-Thursday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm, Friday 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Physical Security Officer I:
- Provides excellent service to members, employees, and guests, creating a welcoming environment and paying attention to behaviors and suspicious activity.
- Monitors security cameras, alarm, and access control systems to detect threats or incidents.
- Responds to alarms, security concerns, and requests for assistance, coordinating with law enforcement or emergency responders as needed.
- Maintains and enforces access control procedures, verifying visitor credentials, issuing badges, and regulating entry, including denying access when necessary.
- Provides emergency response directions and communicates with relevant parties.
- Conducts daily security rounds and inspections for compliance and risk identification.
- Assists with security procedures and building access for employees, guests, and visitors.
- Documents security incidents, visitor logs, and suspicious activities.
- Ensures adherence to security policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Follows organizational policies to manage risks, prevent fraud, and safeguard assets.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Physical Security Officer II:
- Assists in training current and new security staff.
- Supports investigations of security concerns and incidents, providing reports and recommendations.
- Senior Physical Security Officer:
- Leads investigations, reviews reports, and guides peers and management.
- Acts as incident command during emergencies in the absence of management.
- Leads incident debriefings and oversees documentation and compliance.
- Provides security support and deployment to various locations.
- Mentors and supports other officers, communicating with management as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Physical Security Officer I:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in law enforcement, military, security, or similar fields.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain.
- Physical Security Officer II:
- Completion of formal security/first responder training with certification, or two years of relevant experience.
- Senior Physical Security Officer:
- Security Guard License or Bachelor's in Criminal Justice, or three years of relevant experience.
Competencies:

- Functional knowledge includes process understanding, system navigation, superior service, conflict resolution, critical thinking, resilience, initiative, documentation, attention to detail, and mentorship.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- May need to remain stationary for long periods.
- Operate standard office technology and equipment.
- Move inside/outside the office as needed.
- Exposure to hazards such as violence; follows detailed safety procedures.
- Lift up to 50 pounds; transport equipment/materials.
- Must be onsite for scheduled shifts.
