Position Summary

Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job: Faculty facilitate student learning and participate in efforts to improve student success. They assess learning outcomes and their teaching effectiveness, adhere to ethical standards (e.g., NEA, State of Michigan), and maintain licensure where applicable. Responsibilities include teaching Physical Sciences classes, specifically:

  • PHSC-191 Physical Science: 10:30AM - 11:55AM TR
  • PHSC-191L Physical Science Lab: 12:00PM - 2:55PM T
Minimum Requirements
  1. Master's degree in Physical Sciences or related field with 18+ graduate hours in Physical Sciences.
  2. Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching mission.
  3. Innovative, flexible teaching style and understanding diverse student needs.
  4. Language Skills: Ability to read, interpret, write reports, and present information effectively.
  5. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and interpret statistical data.
  6. Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  7. Technology Skills: Integrate computer applications into teaching.
  8. Other Skills: Apply current research to teaching, plan lessons, and establish collegial relationships.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Physical Science or related.
  • Relevant research, study, or teaching experience.
  • Additional graduate coursework or degrees.
  • Recent teaching experience in Physical Sciences.
  • Experience in community college teaching.
  • Interest in developing new courses and programs.
  • Familiarity with digital instruction and learning technologies.
  • Continued professional development evidence.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Move about campus and be stationary as needed.
  • Communicate effectively in person and via phone.
  • Utilize computer programs independently.
  • Present information and respond to questions.
  • Handle chemicals safely and wear protective gloves.
Work Schedule

While not required to hold regular office hours, faculty should make provisions for student consultations.

Must teach onsite; online-only teaching is not available. Candidates may need to provide a professional portfolio. Visa sponsorship is not available. Candidates must pass a drug test and background check.
