Qualifications

  • Must maintain current BLS, CPR, and AED certifications.
  • Ability to design, demonstrate, and lead safe, comprehensive strength and conditioning programs.
  • Knowledge of exercise technique, safety protocols, physical-readiness principles, and injury-mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with performance-team members, medical personnel, and unit leadership.
  • Ability to create practical training resources and accurately maintain exercise-program and participant records.
  • Active Secret Clearance is required.

Responsibilities

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Physical Performance Specialist supports the Physical Readiness Training Program (PRTP) and Special Conditioning Program (SCP) for personnel at the Herbert R. Temple Readiness Center (TARC). The position develops and leads command-specific strength and conditioning programs that improve physical readiness, support Army Fitness Test (AFT) performance, and align training with unit Mission Essential Task Lists (METL). Working collaboratively with the Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) Performance Team and unit medical personnel, the specialist promotes safe exercise technique, mitigates musculoskeletal injury risk, oversees reconditioning support, mentors unit fitness leaders, and maintains accurate program and participant records in accordance with applicable Army, privacy, and TARC requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement command-specific Physical Readiness Training Program (PRTP) and Special Conditioning Program (SCP) activities for TARC personnel.
  • Design, demonstrate, and lead comprehensive strength and conditioning programs that enhance all components of physical fitness and align with the Army Fitness Test (AFT) and unit Mission Essential Task Lists (METL).
  • Instruct TARC personnel on proper exercise techniques and safety protocols to maximize training effectiveness and mitigate musculoskeletal (MSK) injury risk.
  • Ensure the safe and effective operation of equipment used in the performance of assigned duties and report identified supply, equipment utilization, or equipment needs to TARC leadership.
  • Develop and maintain practical resources, including scalable training templates, exercise demonstration videos, and equipment modification guides for units with limited resources.
  • Coordinate with the Human Performance Team (HPT) and unit medical personnel to develop and oversee reconditioning programs for Soldiers and other TARC personnel returning from injury.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to TARC personnel and leadership on strength and conditioning and injury-mitigation strategies in collaboration with the H2F Performance Team.
  • Coach and mentor unit H2F Integrators (H2F-Is) and Master Fitness Trainers (MFTs), providing technical guidance and hands‑on training to strengthen their ability to lead safe and effective physical training.
  • Enter and maintain information in the TARC system of records regarding exercise programs, personnel progress, and recommended training opportunities.
  • Perform routine record maintenance in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 25-50, the Privacy Act, and TARC policies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, demonstrate, and lead safe, comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge of exercise technique, safety protocols, physical-readiness principles, and musculoskeletal injury‑mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with performance-team members, medical personnel, unit leadership, H2F-Is, and MFTs.
  • Ability to create practical training resources and accurately maintain exercise-program and participant records in accordance with applicable privacy and records‑management requirements.
  • Active Secret Clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) credential from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA).
