Job description

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medical Director

Join to apply for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medical Director role at Palmetto GBA.

Position Overview

As a member of the senior management team, the Medical Director provides administrative oversight to the medical staff, analyzes medical review utilization data, researches new medical procedures or technology, and acts as a resource to providers and internal staff on medical policies. The role may also involve writing and revising medical policies.

Location & Logistics

Location: Onsite at our GPC location in Columbia, SC, or Remote. Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday, during normal business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM).

Key Responsibilities

1. Support operations through case review on medical and regulatory matters.
2. Develop claim adjudication criteria requiring medical judgment.
3. Educate staff and medical community on medical policies and programs.
4. Develop and update medical policies in consultation with regulatory and medical experts.
5. Build relationships with the medical community and serve as liaison.
6. Review practice pattern analysis and utilization data.
7. Research new or controversial medical procedures and technology.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in a related field.
• At least 5 years post-graduate experience in direct patient care.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Good judgment, negotiation, and leadership abilities.
• Knowledge of medical review techniques.
• Active medical license and board certification in a recognized specialty.

Preferred Qualifications

• Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (strongly preferred).
• Experience in health insurance industry and inpatient rehabilitation.
• Knowledge of Medicare policies.

Additional Information

Salary range: $206,011 - $413,523, depending on experience and location.
