About Great Oaks Charter School – New York City
The Great Oaks Charter School - NYC (GO-NYC) opened in Fall 2013 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The school currently serves approximately 350 students in grades 6-12. GO-NYC utilizes a full inclusion model with co-teaching classrooms, including content and special education teachers, along with Americorps Fellows.

POSITION SUMMARY
GO-NYC is seeking a dynamic, creative, mission-aligned urban educator to join as a Physical Education Teacher for the 2025-26 school year. The teacher will create a classroom environment promoting understanding of healthy body function and exercise, motivate students to cultivate physical fitness, and develop talents in physical achievement, strength, skill, agility, and coordination.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan, develop, and deliver engaging physical education lessons aligned with standards.
  2. Foster an inclusive learning environment encouraging participation and teamwork.
  3. Teach fundamentals of sports, fitness activities, and healthy habits.
  4. Assess student progress through evaluations and testing.
  5. Develop individualized fitness plans for students.
  6. Organize sports programs and extracurricular activities.
  7. Maintain sports equipment and facilities.
  8. Promote lifelong physical activity.
  9. Collaborate with staff and parents to support student development.
  10. Ensure safety and uphold school policies.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Contribute significantly to student and school success.
  • Assume additional responsibilities and demonstrate leadership.
  • Communicate regularly with parents.
  • Support school culture and occasionally lead professional development.
  • Perform other duties aligned with school mission.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven success in urban education instruction.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred).
  • Knowledge of middle and high school physical education.
  • State certification (preferred).
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Belief in all students' success.
  • Flexible, willing to work outside regular hours.
  • Responsive to feedback and quick to implement improvements.

COMPENSATION

Competitive salary range: $63,000 - $95,000, with benefits, based on experience and credentials.

GENERAL INFORMATION

All staff must pass background checks, have proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency, and start in August 2025 for the 2025-26 school year.
