Position Title: Health and Physical Education Teacher

Position Type: WPEA Bargaining Unit – 10 months

Position Summary: The ideal candidate will support the District's mission and vision and will have primary responsibility for planning and delivering developmentally appropriate lessons that meet state-mandated standards. The Health and Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creatinga classroom environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, nd team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student's ability.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties

• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated bythe Pennsylvania Department of Educationand other appropriate learning activities.


• Works cooperatively with other teachers to plan and implement a balanced physical education program.


• Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.


• Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the William Penn School District'sinstructional philosophy; provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.


• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.


• Provides appropriate safety instruction and conducts safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure students' overall safety.


• Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.


• Maintains control of school property and its use.


• Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports.


• Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.


• Supervises students in classroom activities during the assigned working day.


• Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.

• Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.


• Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of District staff, students, and patrons.

• Knowledge of PA Core Standards and Eligible Content


• Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) including, but not limited to, Schoology and Canvas


• Knowledge of Instructional Planning Guides as it relates to the instructional block


• Knowledge of Digital Curriculum components


• Courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to rigorous, technology-infused lessons.


• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment.


• Receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University or College


• Pennsylvania Teaching Certification -Health and Physical Education K-12


• Prior 7-12 teaching experience delivering Health and Physical Education curriculum desirable

• Master's in Education or related field of study
