Position Title: English as a Second Language Program SpecialistPK-12

Position Location: Penn Wood High School

Bargaining Unit: William Penn Educational Association - 10 months

Position Summary: The ideal candidate will support the District’s mission and vision, and have the primary responsibility to plan and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons that meet state-mandated standards. Each teacher will also communicate regularly and effectively with students/parents.

District Summary: The William Penn School District is located in southeastern Delaware County and serves approximately 5,000 students who reside in the boroughs of Aldan, Colwyn, Darby, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, and Yeadon. We share a collective vision to educate, nurture, and empower all students to become career- and/or college-ready.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties

• Assesses the skill level of students and aligns classroom goals and activities to established state and local standards;
• Provides instruction in respective subject area(s);
• Provides students with instruction emphasizing real-life applications and simulations;
• Teaches inquiry techniques that encourage experimentation and alternative approaches to problem solving;
• Provides technical expertise in the use of tools, materials, processes, and applications of technology, including pertinent software applications;
• Provides students with learning experiences requiring them to demonstrate comprehension of concepts and the ability to use technological resources in developing solutions to problems;
• Provides instruction that encourages students to use learned skills as tools for inquiry-based learning;
• Creates a classroom environment in which students have access to subject-related materials that address their needs and interests;
• Collaborates with staff members within and across disciplines to integrate subject-specific skills across the curriculum;
• Keeps abreast of the latest developments and improvements in education as they affect the instructional program;
• Attends faculty meetings to discuss school problems and teaching methods;
• Maintains classroom discipline;
• Maintains attendance, grade(s), and other required records;
• Implement adaptations for testing and assessment;
• Identify accommodations and specially designed instruction to ensure student success;
• Develop individual assessments and administer diagnostic tests to assess students’ academic achievement;
• Submit quarterly student progress reports to the parent and the District of residence administrator;
• Work effectively with the teacher and other members of the IEP team;
• Maintain up-to-date attendance records and child‑tracking data for each enrolled student;
• Assume additional duties as assigned by the program supervisor

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi‑ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment.
• Ability to receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Valid Pennsylvania Certification: ESL Program Specialist AND a Pennsylvania Level or Level Certification in another subject

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Education or a related field of study
• 2+ years of experience teaching in education environments
