Job summary

Integrity Educational Services seeks a Physical Education (MB) K-12 or Health and Physical Education (MC) K-12 certified teacher for Lighthouse Academy JDC inside the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center for the 2026-2027 school year.

You will provide education to youth in detention, collaborating with a dedicated team to deliver standards-based instruction and supports a Whole Child approach. Requires Michigan K-12 MB/MC endorsement and willingness to serve at-risk students.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with teaching certification or provisional certification.
Must hold valid Michigan K-12 MB or MC endorsement and meet high qualifications for the subjects taught.
Experience teaching or working with at-risk youth is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide engaging educational experiences for K-12 students in detention settings.
Collaborate with a school team to deliver aligned curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
Utilize PBIS framework and classroom routines to influence student behavior and achievement.
Conduct formative assessments and adjust instruction daily based on data.

Integrity Educational Services is currently seeking a Physical Education (MB) K-12 or Health and Physical Education (MC) K-12 Certified Teacher to serve the Lighthouse Academy JDC inside the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center for the 2026-2027 school year! GENERAL PURPOSE:

To be responsible for providing appropriate education experiences to meet the needs of youth enrolled in all programs. The Teacher is accountable to the Principal and functions as a member of the school team, which consists of classroom teachers, instructional support staff, school social workers, the principal and the administrative assistant. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The minimum qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of the job such as education, experience, competencies, knowledge and skills are listed below.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, certification required (or provisional certification with intent to become fully certified). Experience working with emotionally/behaviorally impaired adolescents is preferred. Teaching degree preferred but not required.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematic Skills:

Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to apply verbal de-escalation skills as part of crisis intervention.

Computer Skills:

Knowledge of Google and/or Microsoft applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Michigan teaching certification with a K-12 MB or K-12 MC endorsement required. Must meet highly qualified status according to the Michigan Department of Education for the subjects being taught.

Training:

Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.

Other Qualifications:

Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.
