Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking a Physical Design Methodology CAD Engineer to design and optimize next-generation SoC flows in Santa Clara, CA. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex PD challenges and drive innovative CAD tool development.

You will contribute to high-performance, power-efficient processor design through advanced PD methodologies and GenAI-assisted productivity tools, working with EDA vendors and multiple design groups.

Qualifications

• BS degree plus 10+ years in physical design or CAD methodology.
• Proficiency in Tcl, Python or Perl scripting.
• Experience with CAD flows or PD methodology development.

Responsibilities

• Participate with cross functional teams to tackle physical design challenges.
• Develop innovative solutions in physical design and optimization space.
• Support implementation flows for multiple projects and design teams.
• Develop and maintain custom CAD tools for implementation and signoff.
• Create flows to deploy new technology nodes.
• Develop tools and methodologies for best-in-class PPA and productivity including ML-based solutions.
• Use GenAI tools to develop GenAI applications to improve Design team productivity.
• Collaborate with physical design verification, RC extraction, STA, and other teams.
• Work with EDA tool vendors to resolve issues and identify improvements.

Physical Design Methodology CAD Engineer

As part of our Silicon Technologies group, you’ll help design and manufacture our next-generation, high-performance, power-efficient processor, system-on-chip (SoC). You’ll ensure Apple products and services can seamlessly and efficiently handle the tasks that make them beloved by millions. Joining this group means you’ll be responsible for crafting and building the technology that fuels Apple’s devices. Together, you and your team will enable our customers to do all the things they love with their devices.

• Participating and engaging with cross functional teams to tackle key physical design challenges.
• Developing innovative solutions in physical design and optimization space.
• Developing and supporting implementation flows for multiple projects and design teams.
• Developing and maintaining custom CAD tools for implementation and signoff.
• Creating flows to enable successful deployment of new technology nodes.
• Developing tools and methodologies for best-in-class PPA and productivity including ML based solutions.
• Use and leverage GenAI tools to develop GenAI applications to improve Design team productivity.
• Collaborating with other teams such as physical design verification, RC extraction, IR and static timing analysis (STA).
• Working directly with EDA tool vendors to resolve tool issues and identify areas for tool improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum requirement of BS + 10 years of relevant industry experience
• Proficiency with Tcl, Python or Perl scripting languages.
• Experience in CAD flow or PD methodology development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to coordinate and drive initiatives with little to no oversight
• Hands on knowledge of industry standard PNR tools.
• Expertise in analysis aspects of Physical Design - extraction, timing, noise, physical verification, EMIR.
• Hands on experience with high performance and low power implementation flows.
