Job summary

Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center in Augusta, GA, seeks a board-certified/board-eligible Physiatrist to join the PM&R team affiliated with Augusta University and the Medical College of Georgia. This role offers opportunities to work in an academic medical center with inpatient and outpatient rehab, comprehensive rehabilitation, and collaboration with neurology and other specialties.

This position emphasizes care for patients with neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions, with teaching

Qualifications

• MD or DO required with PM&R residency training.
• Board certification or eligibility in PM&R is required.
• Licensure in Georgia or eligibility for medical licensure in GA.
• Excellent clinical and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Inpatient and/or outpatient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
• Comprehensive rehabilitation consultation.
• Management of patients with stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and other neurologic conditions.
• Musculoskeletal medicine and non-operative treatment.
• Chronic and acute pain management.
• Spasticity management and related procedural interventions.
• Functional assessment and development of individualized rehabilitation plans.
• Collaboration with physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology.
• Close collaboration with neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, trauma, hospital medicine and other medical specialties.
• Participation in multidisciplinary care conferences and rehabilitation planning.
• Teaching and mentorship of residents, fellows, medical students and other learners.
• Opportunities to participate in quality improvement, clinical research and academic initiatives

Physiatrist – Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Wellstar Health System is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Physiatrist to join the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation team at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia.

This is an exciting opportunity to practice in a major academic medical center affiliated with Augusta University and the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) while helping expand and advance rehabilitation services throughout the Central Savannah River Area.

The Opportunity

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in providing comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitation care to patients with a broad range of neurologic, musculoskeletal and functional impairments.

Depending on the candidate's interests and departmental needs, the role may include a combination of:

• Inpatient and/or outpatient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
• Comprehensive rehabilitation consultation
• Management of patients recovering from stroke, traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and other neurologic conditions
• Musculoskeletal medicine and non-operative treatment
• Chronic and acute pain management
• Spasticity management and related procedural interventions
• Functional assessment and development of individualized rehabilitation plans
• Collaboration with physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology
• Close collaboration with neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, trauma, hospital medicine and other medical specialties
• Participation in multidisciplinary care conferences and rehabilitation planning

Candidate Qualifications

• MD or DO degree
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency
• Board certified or board eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
• Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia
• Strong clinical and interpersonal communication skills
• Commitment to multidisciplinary, patient-centered care
• Interest in teaching and/or academic medicine preferred
• Fellowship training or additional expertise in areas such as brain injury, spinal cord injury, pain medicine, sports medicine, musculoskeletal medicine or interventional procedures is welcome
