Job description

Overview

Under the immediate supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor, the Physical Therapist will be directly involved in patient evaluation, planning, directing and administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician. He/she will administer treatments and/or physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. She/he will also assist patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, by providing effective, efficient, and quality care for the patient. The Physical Therapist will coordinate, delegate and supervise assigned supportive staff (PTA, PTLA, PT Aide). He/she will ensure patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. She/he will perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Upon referral, evaluate patients by performing appropriate functional assessment as related to physical therapy.
  • Identify appropriate goals and administer effective treatment plans.
  • Efficiently implement and modify treatment plans.
  • Observe and evaluate treatment effect, recommend change to physician as needed.
  • Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning; family training is included as appropriate.
  • Complete all documentation required by policy, procedure, or regulation.
  • Delegate and supervise patient treatment as appropriate to the PTA and PT Aide.
  • Co‑sign all PTA and PT Aide notes.
  • Participate in in‑service education programs.
  • Participate in clinical instruction of students.
  • Ensure patient charges are accurate.
  • Complete billing sheet accurately by end of day.
  • Assist with orientation of registry and newly hired staff as directed.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Instruct/In‑service other disciplines regarding PT functions.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and developments in physical therapy and rehabilitation.
  • Participate in professional activities to continue personal professional development and contribute to the profession.
  • Adhere to the APTA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Physical Therapy.
  • Attend department staff meetings, read and sign off on all missed staff meeting minutes.
  • Meet expectations successfully on all position specific duties.
  • Provide orientation to newly hired staff.
  • Meet 3 professional goals.
  • Meet daily productivity targets at least 90% of the time.
  • Maintain 24 hours of continuing education, which includes hospital in‑services and attendance of seminars.
  • Give 2 in‑services.
  • Provide 6 hours of teaching.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from a school of Physical Therapy approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Experience: Two years Physical Therapist experience.
  • Certifications/Licensure: Current valid license as a physical therapist by the California State Board of Medical Examiners or eligibility for such registration at the time of appointment. Membership in the APTA is highly recommended. Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association for the Healthcare Provider.
  • Other skills, abilities, knowledge: Knowledge of the principals and practices of Physical Therapy, with knowledge of practices of other disciplines. Ability to evaluate, to plan and to carry out a physical therapy rehabilitative program for individuals patients; ability to explain, demonstrate and teach physical therapy rehabilitative measures; ability to supervise supportive personnel; ability to work effectively with others in an inter‑disciplinary team relationship; beginning ability to be self‑directed and to seek direction and consultation as needed; ability to express oneself clearly both verbally and in written format. Must have basic computer skills.
