Job summary

Formlabs seeks a Materials Scientist - Photopolymer Development in Boston to design and optimize photopolymer formulations for additive manufacturing. You will lead material transitions from lab scale to commercial launch, and establish structure–property relationships to meet strict specifications.

The role requires hands-on lab work, data-driven decisions, and collaboration with product, hardware, and software teams to deliver materials that perform on the Form 4 platform.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in polymer science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or materials science.
  • Experience developing thermoset materials including epoxies, urethanes, or acrylates.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize photopolymer formulations to push additive manufacturing boundaries.
  • Lead end-to-end transition of new materials from lab concept to commercial launch, including tech transfer and scale-up.
  • Establish structure–process–property relationships through rigorous experimentation and analysis.
  • Learn the 3D printing process and hardware to inform formulation decisions and future hardware input.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, hardware and software teams to meet customer needs on the Form 4 platform.
