Thorlabs in Goleta, CA is seeking a Photonics Engineer I to research and develop photonic products. You will work with mechanical, electrical, and optical components, and contribute to design, testing, and data analysis in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications include 1–3 years in photonics R&D, a bachelor’s or higher in engineering or physics, and knowledge of nanofabrication, mask layout, and coding. Salary ranges from $85,000 to $100,000 DOE with strong benefits.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in photonics engineering R&D.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• Working knowledge of photonic device physics.
• Working knowledge of nanofabrication techniques and tools.
• Working knowledge of mask layout software.
• Working knowledge of writing computer code.
• Excellent statistical data analysis and problem solving abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Design photonic systems integrating mechanical, electrical, and optical components with active or passive photonic devices.
• Design process flow and mask layout of photonic nanofabricated devices.
• Assess photonic design proposals and specifications for feasibility of R&D.
• Direct photonic research activities to meet company goals.
• Assist test reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing measurement data.
