Job summary

Thorlabs in Newton, NJ, is seeking a production assembler to help manufacture photonics components. The role involves kitting, intermediate assembly with fasteners and epoxies, and performing measurements with metrology devices.

You will align parts, package products, and support training and continuous improvement initiatives. Ideal candidates have 4+ years in manufacturing, a high school diploma, strong attention to detail, and basic math skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience and related technical education.
• Must understand written work instructions and technical drawings for a wide range of products.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team and maintain high quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Kitting necessary components and preparing materials for batch production.
• Intermediate assembly of products using mechanical fasteners and epoxies.
• Visual, optical, and mechanical measurement of parts using metrology devices.
• Perform alignment of components using jigs, indicators, and laser stations.
• Package products for next process step or final customer.
• Assist with training less experienced team members.
• Highlight issues and participate in troubleshooting efforts.
• Cross train to work in multiple production areas.
• Handle and clean specialty optics and mechanical components.
• Sort and count parts and materials.
• Examine parts for defects.
• Follow written work instructions and quality standards to minimize scrap or rework.
• Maintain records in Manufacturing Database.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement efforts.
• Comply with safety program and keep area organized.
