Role Overview

The Photonic IC Design Engineer is responsible for designing high-speed photonic ICs and system design of optical integrated products for connectivity solutions at Applied Materials. This senior engineer initiates product blueprints, integrates engineering practices, and leads a team.

This role supports Product Marketing with the Product Roadmap, gaining insights into product performance and needs to develop and implement solutions for complex product issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and characterize various photonic ICs from initiation to release, ensuring performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Select components for high-speed architectures, create schematics and layouts.
  • Collaborate with test and firmware engineering teams during development.
  • Work with foundries for co-design and fabrication.
  • Conduct Design Verification Tests (DVT) and prepare technical reports.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience with active/passive component design, transceiver technologies, and PIC-based technologies.
  • Knowledge of optical and electrical packaging, high-speed circuits, and optoelectronic devices.
  • Proficiency with high-speed optical and electrical measurement equipment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation skills, and fluency in English.
  • Background in optics industry or related fields, including academic experience preferred.

The salary will be based on multiple factors, including location, experience, and internal equity. Candidates may also be eligible for bonuses and stock awards.
