Job summary

Spectrum News is seeking an experienced Photojournalist in the San Diego area to shoot and edit material for newscasts, elevating stories with lighting, angles, and fresh perspectives across TV, connected TV, and digital platforms.

You will join a collaborative team that values accuracy and timely storytelling, with responsibilities including travel to cover important local events and strong on-air presence.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience shooting and editing television news footage.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent television work experience.
  • Experience operating ENG/SNG/Satellite vehicles and bonded cellular streaming.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and relate to diverse populations.
  • Willingness to travel to cover community stories.
  • Flexible schedule and ability to cover stand-by duties.
  • Valid driver's license for driving in residence state.

What You’ll Bring to Spectrum News

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Shooting and editing television news footage - 5+ years
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, or comparable television work experience
  • Technical Skills: Operation of ENG/SNG/Satellite vehicles and bonded cellular streaming
  • Skills: Knowledge of how to clearly communicate solutions; ability to relate to populations and ages
  • Abilities: Positive attitude and eagerness to solve problems, lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds, ability to distinguish colors and discern sounds
  • Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community
  • Schedule: Ability to work different shifts, be flexible with schedule changes and able to cover stand-by responsibilities when assigned
  • Valid driver's license for authorized driving in the state of residence

Preferred Qualifications

  • DSNG experience

Working Conditions

  • Works inside in a climate-controlled environment and outside throughout the year and may be subjected to various weather conditions that could include extreme heat or cold conditions
  • Drives company vehicle to and from different locations in a safe manner by obeying all traffic laws

A qualified applicant’s criminal history, if any, will be considered in a manner consistent with applicable laws, including local ordinances.

The base pay for this position generally is between $20.40 and $43.30. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
