Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Capture images documenting people, programs and facilities of the university.
  • Respond to internal photo requests in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all photo assignments are shot, submitted and processed by deadlines.
  • Perform photo adjustments and light retouching before publishing.
  • Photograph in studio, classroom, and field using natural and artificial lighting.
  • Work well in fast-paced environments and solve problems on shoots.
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and independently.
  • Demonstrate visual problem solving across assignments.
  • Coordinate with Photography Project Coordinator on requests and scheduling.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry photography trends.

Job description

Create images for University publications, internal/external customers and websites as directed by Managing Photographer. Staff Photographer responds to photo assignments and proactively makes images that document the life of the University. Staff Photographer will also archive photographs into University catalogs in a timely manner and maintain and secure University photography equipment. Staff photographer will also coordinate with Managing Photographer in maintaining and updating photography calendar. Staff photographer may interact with members of external media and the community while on assignments. Typical schedule takes place during regular business hours (8am – 5pm). Upon occasion, photographer is responsible for photographing during long extended or weekend hours.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. 1. Captures images that document, illustrate, and promote the people, programs and facilities of the university.
  2. 2. Respond to internal photo requests.
  3. 3. Assure that all photo assignments are shot, submitted and processed by the requested deadline.
  4. 4. Responsible for photo adjustments and light re-touching before photos are published.
  5. 5. Photograph in studio, classroom and field environments, using both natural and artificial lighting.
  6. 6. Ability to work in fast-paced environment and problem solve during shoots.
  7. 7. Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  8. 8. Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
  9. 9. Demonstrated ability in visual problem solving.
  10. 10. Work with Photography Project Coordinator on reviewing requests, planning for photoshoots/staff scheduling, etc.
  11. 11. Maintain knowledge of current industry trends in photography.
  12. 12. Proven experience in shooting and editing well-composed photos for a wide range of communications and marketing purposes, including portraits, candids, environmentals and event photography.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

A four-year college degree, preferably in photography, and 1-2 years' experience are required. Must have professional level of expertise in digital editing, workflow, and color management as well as be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Bridge, and Photo Mechanic). Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Regularly required to lift up to 75 pounds. If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel. Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.

Pay Range

Compensation is determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, along with University needs and external market conditions. Market benchmarks may be used, as appropriate, in combination with internal equity to ensure pay is fair and aligned with the broader compensation structure.

The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits , including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.

$45,000.00 - $50,000.00
