The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Iowa City, IA, is seeking a Medical Technician-Phlebotomist in the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service. This full-time, non-virtual position involves phlebotomy in the outpatient area, specimen processing, and patient education.

Qualifications

• Transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
• Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
• If you are using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript to receive credit for that education.

Responsabilités

• Follows procedures for patient identification, sample procurement, and specimen labeling.
• Performs routine venipuncture specimen collections from patients.
• Prepares samples for testing, including labeling, centrifugation, decanting and aliquoting.
• Provides education to patients for proper collection techniques.
• Answers calls for the laboratory service and relays information or refers to technical staff.
