Job summary

WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital is seeking a part-time laboratory worker to perform specimen procurement and processing across on-site and off-site service areas. The role may require working different parts of a 24-hour schedule and accepting on-call responsibilities.

Main duties include receiving and processing specimens, transcribing orders, and ensuring accurate data entry and patient communication. A driver’s license is required and Basic Life Support is preferred upon hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred upon hire.
• Driver's license required with valid driving record.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under supervision, may record results.
• Transcribes orders and receives specimens into the laboratory, may process specimens, deliver specimens to testing locations, store specimens for future analysis and dispose of specimens.
• May receive and transport supplies, equipment, reports and specimens between the laboratory and other health care locations.
• Collects specimens as directed using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens.
• Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.
• Provides complete and accurate instructions to patients and other customers of the laboratory.
• Resolves billing problems and/or receives insurance updates.
• May review physician orders for supporting documentation.
