Job summary

Advocate Health in Winston-Salem is seeking a WFBMC Lab Outreach Services Phlebotomist to join our hospital-based team. You will collect blood specimens, verify patient identity, and ensure accurate delivery to lab sections, following all safety standards and LIS entry tasks.

The role requires a high school diploma, CPR and phlebotomy certification; two years of phlebotomy experience preferred. We offer competitive pay, shift pay, benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two-year age-appropriate phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • CPR certification.
  • Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, AMT, ASPT or equivalent from an accredited program).
  • Knowledge of safety and identification procedures.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to medical center standards to promote a cooperative work environment.
  • Assure accurate and timely collection of blood specimens per departmental practices.
  • Assure accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections.
  • Follow proper safety and identification procedures with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of phlebotomy by serving as a resource to staff and applying knowledge in daily routines.
  • Improve work skills through self‑study and continuing education.
  • Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
  • Protect self, coworkers and facility by following policies to prevent the spread of bloodborne/airborne diseases.
  • Exhibit professional image of laboratories per hospital and professional society standards.
  • Provide age‑appropriate specimen collection per age‑specific guidelines.
  • Maintain inventory and supplies related to job activities and monitor expiration dates.
  • Perform clerical functions: entry of lab orders into LIS, printing and delivery of reports, filing reports, preparing requisitions, and entering information into laboratory or hospital computer system.
  • Perform specimen processing per laboratory policies.
  • May perform waived testing.
  • May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Overview

Position: WFBMC Lab Outreach Services Phlebotomist (Full time,40 hrs). Location: Winston Campus. Shift: Monday–Friday8:00–17:00 with weekend rotation. Pay range: $19.80–$29.70 per hour.
