Job summary

WH Wheeling Hospital Inc. in Wheeling, WV seeks a Phlebotomy Tech to collect blood and blood cultures, as well as non-blood specimens such as urine, sputum, semen and throat swabs, with attention to chain of custody.

You will perform venipunctures and skin punctures, label specimens in the patient’s presence, operate basic lab equipment, communicate with patients and staff, and handle clerical tasks like filing and report distribution.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) preferred.
• Six months phlebotomy experience.

Responsibilities

• Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible for patient groups from neonates to geriatrics.
• Properly labels all specimens in the presence of the patient.
• Operate basic laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, computer systems, labeling printers, scanners, phone system, etc.).
• Communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, clients, and staff.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing.
• If applicable, collect drug screens (internal and external) using Chain of Custody Process.
