Job description

Overview

Obtains blood specimens from patients and delivers specimens to the laboratory and/or sends them through the transport system. Correctly identifies patients and specimens.

Qualifications

Education

High School diploma or GED required.

MLA certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency (i.e., ASCP or AMT) preferred. An Associate Degree with a minimum of 6 semester hours of biology and 6 semester hours of chemistry is preferred.

Experience

Previous work experience is strongly preferred.

Additional Skills/Abilities

Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and changing tasks quickly. Must maintain absolute confidentiality in handling patient information. Must demonstrate absolute integrity and accuracy in patient identification. Completion of HeartSaver CPR is required by the end of the orientation period.
