Job summary

The Cleveland Clinic Health System in Lorain is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician for the Lorain Family Health Surgery Center. You will join a dedicated team performing blood collections and ensuring specimen integrity in a patient-centered environment.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, specimen labeling, processing, and delivery to the processing area. Prior phlebotomy experience preferred; externships welcome for new grads. Schedule is days, 8:00am-5:00pm.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or GED and phlebotomy experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and draw blood.
  • Good technical proficiency with standard procedures and logs.
  • Strong troubleshooting and teamwork in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood collection procedures and maintain logs.
  • Verify orders and identify patient information before drawing blood.
  • Label specimens and deliver to the processing area.
  • Process specimens and complete related tasks (accessioning, centrifugation).
  • Pickup and deliver blood, other sample types, and lab supplies.

Phlebotomy Technicians are essential members of the medical laboratory team, responsible for theaccurateand efficient collection of blood samples from patients. Because manyindividualschildren, teens, and adults alikemay feel anxious or fearful about needles or the blood-draw process, skilled phlebotomists play a critical role in creating a calm, reassuring experience. By usingstrong communicationskills, empathy, and proper technique, they help put patients at ease while obtaining high-quality specimens.The team prefers candidates with prior phlebotomy experience. For new graduates, the team prefers candidates who have completed an externship during which they gained hands-on experience drawing blood.

There is also significant opportunity for professional growth within the department, including roles such as Lead Phlebotomist, Team Lead, or Supervisor, as well as advancement throughout the Cleveland Clinicsystem.

A caregiver in this positionworksdays, 8:00am-5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipunctureproceduresandmaintainappropriate logsheets.
  • Verify order requests andidentifyinformation prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.
  • Label all specimens collected and deliver them to theappropriate processingarea.
  • Perform specimen processing and send out tasks,including accessioning,centrifugationand packaging.
  • Pick up and deliver blood, other sampletypesand lab supplies.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • HighSchoolDiploma or GED
  • Phlebotomy Technician experience
  • Technicalproficiencywith standard procedures,techniquesand common practices
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a team environment

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • FormalPhlebotomyCertification
  • Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program with a clinical rotation/externship
  • Experience strongly preferred
  • Trouble shooting andproblem-solvingskills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Can excel in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment

Physical Requirments:

  • Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.
  • Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
