Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Abilene is seeking a Phlebotomist to draw blood and support specimen processing in a correctional hospital setting. The role requires careful aseptic technique, timely reporting, and coordination with the Managed Care team.

The position runs M-F, 6:00AM - 3:00PM, with hourly pay ranging from $18.00 to $22.00 and an emphasis on accurate specimen handling and quality assurance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; 1 year related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy using aseptic technique.
• Maintains specimen collection containers by monitoring expiration dates.
• Reports abnormal findings or processing errors to the charge nurse.
• Checks that laboratory equipment functions properly and maintains a temperature log.
• Uses Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to ensure continuity of care.
• Participates in Quality Assurance monitoring for laboratory equipment.
• Orders and maintains laboratory supplies.
• Properly prepares and handles specimens for analysis.
• Contributes to the unit’s goals as part of the Managed Care team.
• Responds to requests in a timely manner and attends meetings as needed.
