Phlebotomy Support Tech II, Evenings, 5k sign on bonus

Schedule: Full Time Evenings, 1:30 pm - 10:00 pm

This role primarily involves specimen processing for pathology in the laboratory, including registration, order entry, accessioning, and specimen delivery to the Pathology Assistant for grossing. Responsibilities also include packaging and tracking specimens to produce slides for pathologists and ensuring proper assignment to on-site pathologists.

Responsibilities
  1. Obtain venous and/or capillary blood specimens following established procedures.
  2. Use computerized systems for logging and tracking specimens and patient information. Properly identify and label specimens for processing, delivery, or storage.
  3. Perform accurate order entry and verify requisitions for correct data. Register specimens.
  4. Operate basic laboratory equipment, such as centrifuges.
  5. Communicate effectively with laboratory and medical staff regarding specimen issues and proper handling.
  6. Monitor pending work and resolve specimen-related problems.
  7. Sort and distribute laboratory reports/mail appropriately.
  8. Manage inventory and supplies, including stock rotation and requisitions.
  9. Respond to inquiries about test results and specimen status, and communicate abnormal values to providers as needed.
  10. Assist in training new team members.
  11. Perform maintenance and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred.
  • Certification as a registered phlebotomist by a recognized society (e.g., American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians) preferred.
  • Experience not required but encouraged; minimum two years of work as a phlebotomist preferred.
  • Healthcare experience and knowledge of specimen handling and clerical processes are advantageous.
