Job description

Responsible for providing a wide range of supervisor duties in support of the outpatient and inpatient phlebotomy departments under the direction of the manager.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs all duties of the Outpatient draw stations and inpatient departments which include all forms of phlebotomy on all age levels, specimen handling, patient interviewing and miscellaneous paperwork.
  2. Performs supervisory responsibilities such as hiring, interviewing, conducting performance evaluations, assisting with setup of new outpatient services and providing disciplinary actions.
  3. Oversees work of others by assigning work and providing guidance as needed. Orients and trains new employees.
  4. Assists with the creation or revision of procedures/policies to ensure efficient workflow and productivity. Monitors accordingly. Establishes and maintains a filing system for department records.
  5. Responds to and directs telephone inquiries pertaining to physicians and patients.
  6. Prepares statistical reports as established, delivering to Laboratory Manager. Reports any unusual problems to Laboratory Manager.
  7. Maintains a proper inventory of supplies needed in order to provide continuous service.
  8. Develop and maintain courier system to ensure timely specimen delivery.
  9. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications

Vocational/technical training and a minimum of one year job-related experience or equivalent is required. Supervisor experience preferred. Phlebotomy certificate required.
