Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II to perform sample processing and may assist with phlebotomy duties.

This open-pooled role requires handling specimens, performing basic quality control, and supporting patient registration and testing workflows.

Weekend night shifts (10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.; 19.99 hours per week) and potential vehicle use after safety training are part of the job. This position is not benefits eligible.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years related experience.
• Completion of a Phlebotomy course or experience preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License (required for some locations).

Responsibilities

• Performs essential duties in phlebotomy or other clinical related tasks.
• Performs computer functions for patient registration, blood collection, and specimen management.
• Determines acceptability of patient samples and prepares, stores, and transfers samples for testing.
• Performs quality control procedures on equipment and maintains inventory records.
• May provide training and assess competency for staff and cover different shifts as needed.
