Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care in Urbandale, IA seeks a patient-centered Laboratory Technician II (PRN) to perform phlebotomy and routine laboratory tests, with support for point of care testing. The role requires two years of lab experience or CLA certification, and EPIC experience is advantageous.

The position offers flexible hours (Mon–Fri 8:00 AM–5:00 PM window), no weekends, no on-call time, and is paid at pay grade 8 for hourly PRN work.

Qualifications

Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience.
CLA certification, OR
Any combination of related post high school education and experience totaling two years.

Responsibilities

Performs phlebotomy.
Performs routine laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.).
Uses the Laboratory Information System to accession specimens and may enter data.
Prepares specimens for transport and maintains specimen viability.
Records results and reports to clinicians in compliance with SOPs.
Operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment.
Performs daily quality control as required.
Maintains a medium-sized laboratory area and equipment.
Manages supplies and orders additional items.
Distributes incoming freight and samples; packs outgoing containers.
Seeks assistance from the Laboratory Technical Consultant for complex issues.
Responds to inquiries regarding specimens and resolves questions with minimal guidance.
Other duties as assigned.
