Job summary

Advocate Health’s Wilkes Medical Center - Lab is seeking a full-time Phlebotomy Technician for the 3rd shift. You will collect patient blood, process specimens, and support specimen transport and documentation. The role requires adherence to safety and infection control standards, plus familiarity with hospital information systems.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, routine lab testing, and assisting with training and workflow in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required to enter training.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred where phlebotomy is a duty.
• Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Collects and processes patient blood by venipuncture and capillary puncture.
• Processes nonblood patient specimens timely and accurately.
• Assists with specimen preparation, receipt and transport of specimens.
• Maintains documentation and labeling per standards; observes aseptic technique.
• Operates laboratory information systems; updates clinicians on results as needed.
• Trains new staff and students on standard work practices.
