Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required or equivalent.
• Nine-month medical assistant program is preferred.
• Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Valid South Dakota driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Collects and transports venous and capillary blood specimens, determines specimen acceptability and prepares specimens for technical analysis.
• Performs basic demographic and test ordering functions for outpatients and entering referral lab test results.
• Performs and reports waived testing under technical supervision.
• Performs basic office functions: answering telephones, maintaining stock, ordering supplies, and relaying information to authorized individuals.
• Performs preventive maintenance and safety functions.
• Administers TB and other intradermal skin tests.
• Assists with orientation of new staff and students.
• Assists in identifying Quality Improvement indicators and data gathering.
• Other duties may be assigned.
