Join to apply for the Phlebotomy Lab Assistant - PRN role at GBMC HealthCare.

Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomy Lab Assistant provides phlebotomy/accessioning services, utilizing appropriate equipment to collect, receive, and process pathology and laboratory specimens. The role also involves providing laboratory information and reports to customers, and assisting in training and monitoring co-workers, students, and other hospital staff.

Education: High School

Licensures/Certifications: Not Applicable

Experience: 6 months of related phlebotomy experience and 6 months of laboratory accessioning experience

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws and all phlebotomy procedures, including for children and infants, following aseptic techniques.
  • Accurately document all phlebotomy activities.
  • Document outpatient callbacks, including physician office interactions.
  • Enter accurate patient demographic information and laboratory test orders, verify specimen collection and receipt.
  • Prepare and process specimens for testing, including labeling, measuring, aliquoting, and centrifuging.
  • Perform quality EKGs and complete all demographic data accurately.
  • Screen and interview donors, complete donor room QC daily, and follow universal precautions.
  • Complete donor documentation accurately and timely.
  • Maintain equipment, labels, and supplies; perform disinfections and organize requisitions.
  • Verify outpatient orders and match requisitions with Meditech orders and labels.
  • Respond promptly to all stat orders.
  • Accurately register donors with Quest and Sheppard Pratt.
  • Participate in continuing education, sharing knowledge gained through seminars and workshops.
  • Ensure patient safety by proper identification and double-checking specimens against orders.
  • Package and transport specimens according to policy, ensuring timely delivery to the lab.

Pay Range: $16.79 - $24.37, based on qualifications and experience.
