Job summary

Howard Community College is seeking a Phlebotomy Instructor to deliver high-quality instruction in the Phlebotomy Technician program. Qualifications

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., CPT, PBT) or licensed healthcare professional with phlebotomy experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical venipuncture and specimen collection experience.
• Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
• Instructor training or education methodology coursework encouraged.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to student success in healthcare education.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver curriculum aligned with national phlebotomy certification standards.

• Maintain attendance, grades, and progress records.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements for phlebotomy education.

Summary

The Phlebotomy Instructor is responsible for delivering high‑quality instruction to students enrolled in the Phlebotomy Technician program. This role includes teaching classroom theory, demonstrating hands‑on venipuncture and specimen collection skills, and preparing students for national certification and entry‑level employment in clinical and laboratory settings. The instructor creates an engaging, supportive learning environment that promotes student success, professionalism, and confidence in essential phlebotomy competencies.

• Develop and deliver curriculum aligned with national phlebotomy certification standards and current industry practices.
• Teach both classroom and laboratory components, including venipuncture, capillary collection, specimen handling, safety protocols, and infection control.
• Utilize the learning management system (Canvas) to support in‑person, online, and hybrid instruction.
• Assess student performance through written exams, skills check‑offs, and competency evaluations.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements for phlebotomy education.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student learning and continuous program improvement.
• Provide mentorship, professional guidance, and career readiness support to students pursuing roles in clinical laboratories and healthcare settings.
• Participate in professional development and maintain current certifications and credentials.

Experience Required

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., CPT , PBT ) or licensed healthcare professional with documented phlebotomy experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection in a healthcare or laboratory environment.
• Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
• Completion of, or willingness to complete, instructor training or education methodology coursework.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to student success and excellence in healthcare education.
