Located at Highland District Hospital (Hillsboro, OH)

Full-Time Day Shift (8:00 AM-4:30 PM)

Position Summary:

Responsible for coordinating, under the supervision of the Senior Manager, the daily workflow of the lab support caregivers to include Phlebotomists/Processors at Highland District Hospital Laboratory. Performs specimen collection and processing as needed to maintain service to the patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates and oversees the daily workflow of the phlebotomy/processing caregivers and/or any other area of the clinical lab assigned.
  • Creates the daily schedules and work assignments to meet requirements for optimal service delivery. Maintains vacation calendar/schedule for lab support caregivers.
  • Provides expert knowledge and experience to laboratory support caregivers while promoting teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Works directly with laboratory technologists and management to ensure the policies and procedures of the laboratory are followed safely and appropriately.
  • Works as needed on problems and troubleshooting to maintain efficient operations of the support areas of the laboratory.
  • Assists with and facilitates orientation and training of new employees and/or students and well as maintain staff competency assessments in collections.
  • Perform all the functions, duties, and responsibilities of a hospital phlebotomist/processor.
  • Performs other clinical and/or administrative duties according to established protocols and as assigned by lab management, such as but not limited to: workload recording, supply inventory, scheduling, policy/procedure updates, and regulatory/accreditation oversight, preparation and readiness.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance for hospital laboratory operations. Supports hospital committee requests as approved by lab manager.

  • Ability to multi-task- be able to maintain focus on several different tasks at the same time, be able to keep on task with many interruptions.
  • Ability to work within specified deadlines and timetables.
Physical & Safety Demands:
  • High level of noise in the hospital laboratory.
  • Repetitive movements while collecting blood specimens and transporting phlebotomy equipment (cart or tray). Including, but not limited to hand/wrist/arm movements, bending/stooping, and walking. Walking up to 4-6 miles per day.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Visual acuity and hand-finger dexterity to work at computer for extended periods.
  • Sit or stand at computer work station for extended periods.
  • Comprehension of verbal and written directions.
  • Concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Demonstrate complete integrity and accuracy in collections and processing.
  • Handle stressful situations in a calm manner.
  • Respirator Medical Evaluation with ability to wear PAPR and/or N95 as required.
  • Will have exposure to biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic and health policies of the Company.
  • Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas.
  • Complete required safety training and health evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Anticipate safety hazards, act upon unsafe situations and promote safety awareness.
